The Ragamuffins
The Ragamuffins were born early in 2007 with the
recording of the "Hit The Ground Running" EP with drummer Richard
Nicholson and guitarist and vocalist David Jaggs. The EP was well received, being played on Radio City in
Merseyside, and on community Radio stations in Lancashire and Scotland.
Jamaica Wool (probably the EP's finest moment) was played at Liverpool FC's
Anfield Stadium on a number of occasions early in the 2007-08 season (cheers
George). After
a number of initial gigs around Manchester a second EP was recorded,
including "Beautiful Game" (a damning indictment of the money-run
state of British football, or "soccer" to you Yanks) and "It's
Never Over". |

By now, the group was getting into full swing, as
triumphant gigs at The Dublin Castle (London), The Cavern and The Zanzibar (Liverpool),
The Rampant Lion and Bar Saki (Manchester) as well as at the Cellar Bar
(Blackburn) opening for the legendary Mani testified. The band are continuing to go from strength to strength,
honing a jangly pop style and sound owing much to the music of beat groups of
the 50's and 60's, Ska groups of the late 70's and early 80's, and North
American Northern Soul music (made universally famous of course by the very
region the band grew up in) but with the witty lyricism of profound pop and
indie greats as Elvis Costello, Morrissey and Stuart Murdoch.
