Ribble Valley is one of Lancashire’s best-kept secrets. Clitheroe, at the

market since the Norman Conquest in the 12th Century. Its castle walls and
keep dominate the surrounding countryside. The area is popular with tourists
who enjoy the regions natural unspoilt beauty in particular areas such as the
Forest of Bowland, an
ancient Royal Hunting Park between Clitheroe and Lancaster. Three Rivers, the Ribble, Hodder and
Calder converge at Mitton near Whalley and Whalley itself is famous for the
ruined Abbey in the centre of the Village. Created in 1296 AD by Cistercian Monks and dissolved
during the reign of Henry VIII in 1537. It is still possible to visit the
Abbey ruins and gardens on the banks of the Calder today. The Aspinall Arms is located in the heart of the Ribble Valley on the
banks of the River Ribble at Mitton. Pay a visit and discover Lancashire’s
best-kept secret for yourself. |
